Substance Abuse & Mental Health Treatment
For high school and university students and other young adults
Adolescent IOPs When Teens Are Struggling
When students are struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues, school counselors and university staff are often the first professionals in the continuum of care to identify and respond. Sameem Behavioral Health has always worked closely with educators and counselors to insure that we respond quickly and appropriately, and that we stay in touch with them as much as permissible while students are under our care.
Adolescents and Co-occurring Disorders
We partner with staff at high schools and universities to provide
flexible schedules and resources for adolescents and young adults who need help. We can schedule around academics and other obligations, so even students who need
Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) can stay in school. And when an adolescent co-occurring disorder complicates treatment or schedules, we have therapists with years of experience treating trauma and a wide range of behavioral and emotional issues, regardlesss whether Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is part of the diagnosis.
At Sameem, we meet students where they are.
- We work with students, their families, and teams to determine what services are needed
- We offer harm reduction programs for students who are using substances but resistant to stopping
- We provide outpatient counseling, medication, drug testing, as well as parent support and coaching
- We deliver customized, intensive outpatient treatment programs (IOPs) scheduled around classes
- We operate peer support groups for adolescents and young adults, as well as integrated groups for people in early sobriety.
- We recommend appropriate inpatient settings when needed.
- We refer to Maclean Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and other specialized providers for more complex diagnoses

Our Approach
We Treat The Whole Person
We specialize in addiction treatments but often work with individuals who have dual diagnoses
We treat the whole person, working with students, their parents and families, as well as their schools and other providers.
- Comprehensive assessments start at intake, when we make an initial recommendation for treatment, and continue throughout the next 90 days. This assessment informs the ongoing treatment plan, identifying issues and noting treatments that are effective for that person.
- Highly individualized treatment plans, tailored to each client’s needs and circumstances, can include a combination of individual, group, and family therapies, as well as support making lifestyle changes. We also offer drug and alcohol testing and medication to reduce cravings for substances.
- Our recovery-oriented approach is informed by nearly
40 years of professional experience showing that the skills developed in the treatment and recovery process equip adolescents and young adults to live healthy, whole, and meaningful lives. Hope, self-determination, and empowerment are embedded in our work. We take pride in our patients’ growth and development and encourage them to do the same.
- Reality-based, data driven. When we recommend that patients invest time and effort into any treatment, they can trust that our recommendations are based on research, industry best practices, and our own experience. We hold ourselves accountable through partnerships with research institutions, as well as our own data collection.
We Accept Insurance
We are in-network with most major insurance providers - Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, CIGNA, AETNA, Optum, Tufts, Unicare, and more. If your insurance provider is not listed here, let us know. We can usually arrange for coverage if we aren't already in network.
